Pond leak? - Here's an easy to follow way to locate yours.
Step 1 - Confirm you've really got a leak and are not just overreacting to normal evaporation. A straightforward way to confirm you're not just seeing a high degree of seasonal evaporation is to place a five gallon bucket into the pond. Fill it to the same level as the pond and then observe over the next few hours/days the difference between the two levels. If you've genuinely got a leak, your pond level will drop noticeably as compared the water level in the bucket.
Step 2 - As the water level drops inspect all the plumbing (pvc most likely) and feel for moisture at all the joints and the obvious puddling common to cracks or broken seams.
Step 3 - Plumbing leaks typically draw down the water level of the pond to the point where it generally stops once it drops below the water intake. If the symptom does not behave that way and instead drops to a certain level within the pond without ever exposing the water intake the leak is more than likely in the liner. Conversely, if the water leaks out all the way to the water intake - the leak is in one of the lines, pump, or filtration canister.
Step 4 - If you're experiencing the behavior described in step 3, where the water drops to a specific level at which point is appears to cease leaking you need to very carefully inspect all around the perimeter of the pond wall. The leak is almost certainly along the water line, and can range from a small puncture to a very fine crack, so you may have to inspect very closely. It will be located ever so slightly just above the water line.
